Saccoccio & Associates Completes Blackstone Valley Prep Renovations
September 9, 2015
Blackstone Valley Prep moved into its newly renovated Middle School this week in Central Falls.
Renovations of the former St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Academy building at 909 Lonsdale Avenue, designed by Saccoccio & Associates, were completed by general contractor H.V. Collins in time for the start of the 2015-16 academic year. The private catholic school was purchased last year by New York-based Civic Builders, a nonprofit organization backed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that helps high-quality charter schools finance and renovate private space.
The $7.5 million purchase and renovation of the 31,000 square foot building included new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, window replacements and a new elevator. The renovation also included life and safety upgrades to comply with current building and fire codes, new floor and ceiling finishes, restored woodwork and acoustical upgrades. The 15 core classrooms were equipped with wireless projectors and other 21st century technology.
The Blackstone Valley Prep draws students from Pawtucket, Central Falls, Cumberland and Lincoln, with the largest percentage coming from Pawtucket. The Middle School serves approximately 325 students in grades five through eight.
